Browse Basin LNG Precinct - Surveying Remote Seas

Client:
Woodside

RPS has been commissioned to design and conduct extensive aerial and vessel-based surveys of humpbacks, dugongs and other marine megafauna along the west Kimberley coast in northern Western Australia. The scientifically robust surveys – which are some of the largest of their kind – are being managed by RPS environmental consultants drawing on the skills of our in-house marine mammal observation team. Information will be gathered on the distribution and temporal occurrence of the marine megafauna, as well as broad-based behavioural information.

The results will form part of an EIA in support of the Browse Basin LNG Precinct funded by Woodside and proposed by the Department of State Development. The precinct is proposed to accommodate LNG processing and shipping facilities for multiple proponents currently exploring and developing the extensive gas resources in the offshore Kimberley region – a remote area rich in diverse biological resources.
